As a fourth-time mom, you might think I’ve mastered the art of packing a hospital bag, and you’d be right—mostly! Each pregnancy has taught me something new about what I truly need (and don’t need) for that big moment. In this post, I’ll share my tried-and-true essentials that have served me well for the delivery of my last baby, along with a few new items that I was excited to bring along this time. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or a first-time parent, my insights might help lighten your load and ease your mind as you prepare for your little one’s arrival.
When it comes to welcoming your new baby, the method of delivery can significantly impact your hospital experience. I’m an imperfect fourth-time mama who has undergone four C-sections, and one attempt at a v delivery, and I’ve learned firsthand how each approach can determine what to pack in your hospital bag. Every mom is different and will have different needs, so you do what is right for you. If you want to go all out and pack all things aesthetic from your home for picture perfect moments, I encourage that. Do you need your comforter you’ve had for ten years (ahem, this girl) to make you feel secure, bring it! Are you on the fence about any particular item? Just pack it. You can also ask your friend group or a mom group whether or not an item in question would actually be helpful to have.
Let’s dive into the must-haves that keep me comfortable and ready for whatever the hospital journey throws my way!
What’s in my hospital bag:
- A. I bought two pj sets from the gap that are insanely soft and light as air. They are absolutely the best thing ever made! They came in a set with pants, a cami, and coverup.
- B. I lived in the mesh undies, but brought Bodily undies.
- C. A basic travel toiletry set with shampoo, conditioner, bodywash & face oils, deodorant, toothpaste & toothbrush, and a hairbrush & hair tie.
- D. My makeup bag with essentials (I never put any makeup on).
- E. Of course I brought my camera and laptop to post photos, but didn’t get to it; that’s a whole other post.
- F. And finally, a going home outfit: a maternity jumpsuit and striped top.
